The Gift of Music Concert Series

We invite you to join us for the spectacular and unique collage of music offerings that comprise our 2017 – 2018 FUMCFW Concert Series, The Gift of Music. This continuous, yearlong series offers a broad array of quality ensembles — each at the top of its level — with instrumental music from organ to strings and brass, and choral performances featuring male and female, community, high school, college, and professional choral ensembles. This music outreach provides something for everyone’s musical taste across genres, styles, and periods.

OCTOBER

Spectrum Concert Series

Monday, October 16, 2017
7:00 – 8:30 pm | Leonard Memorial Chapel

Join us for the first concert of the 21st Season of Spectrum Concert Series, followed by a reception in Wesley Hall with the musicians. Each of these delightful concerts, held in the beautiful intimacy of Leonard Memorial Chapel, features instrumental chamber ensembles and professional musicians affiliated with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. No admission or reservations required.

OSU Chorale & Guest Choirs Present “The Cutting Edge” with Dr. Z. Randall Stroope & Guest Composers

Oklahoma State University Chorale, Brass, and Percussion with OSU Director of Choral and Vocal Studies Dr. Z. Randall Stroope — together with Richland, Plano, Haltom, and Byron Nelson High Schools and Guest Composers Eric William Barnum and Daniel Elder — will be on “The Cutting Edge” with this unique musical presentation.

NOVEMBER

An All Saints’ Evening with Adoramus & TWU Chorale

Adoramus Chamber Choir and Texas Wesleyan University Chorale will perform both separately — and together in concert for the first time! — an evening choral presentation in the spirit of All Saints’. FUMCFW is honored to have TWU’s choral music department as a part of our concert series.

DECEMBER

Choral Union Presents “Magnificat” by John Rutter

Choral Union will perform the full musical setting of the biblical canticle “Magnificat” which its composer described as “a poetic outpouring of praise, joy, and trust in God” that “has always been one of the most familiar and well-loved of scriptural texts.” Be sure to join us for this special extended service.

Adoramus Presents “Small, Dancing Light” by Taylor Davis

Adoramus will perform composer and former FUMCFW Music Director Taylor Davis’ Advent work “Small, Dancing Light” for organ, chamber orchestra, and chamber choir. This thematic presentation, which includes six original texts and three congregational hymns, will fill the hearts of all who listen.

Greater Tarrant Men’s Choir: An EcuMENical Chorus

The love of singing will bring together men from church choirs all across Texas for a second annual concert conducted by Victor Johnson of the Fort Worth Academy of the Fine Arts. Enjoy a plethora of choral selections from a portion of the Texas Music Educators Association concert, plus the Mansfield High School Men’s Chorus under the direction of Reginal Wright.

Centenary College Choir

The Centenary College Choir, under the direction of Dr. David Hobson, will present choral music throughout both morning worship services. Nicknamed as “America’s Singing Ambassadors,” the choir’s innovative spirit is evident in its unique and diverse manner of programming — a repertoire that ranges from Bach to Broadway — and engages audiences through an eclectic repertoire and emotional, heartfelt music making.

Wiley College Choir

The Wiley College A Capella Choir, under the direction of Stephen L. Hayes, brings to our congregation a wonderful word through music. This choir, the oldest internationally known organization on its campus, will fill the hearts of the congregation as they lead us through worship with their incredible spirit and beautiful voices.

The SMU Meadows Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Pamela Elrod Huffman, will perform in concert along with guest choirs from Birdville High School with Director Amy Allibon and Northwest High School with Director Kaitlyn Carty. We are honored to have three such distinguished conductors and their choirs.

Preparatory Concert for 2018 SWACDA Featuring Colleyville Heritage High School Chamber Choir & North Richland Hills Middle School Choir

Two highly acclaimed choral programs, Colleyville Heritage High School Chamber Choir conducted by Thomas Rinn and North Richland Hills Middle School Choir conducted by Lorelai Cole, will share their concert program for the 2018 SWACDA Convention and truly showcase the talents of some of our finest young singers in the Metroplex vicinity.

Adoramus Good Friday Evening Service

Yoon-Mi Lim Organ Recital

Alexei Sultanov Tribute Concert with Cellist Dace Sultanov & Organist Peggy Graff

In a love story that can only be told by one world-class musician in memory of another, our beloved FUMCFW Cellist Dace Sultanov will perform her annual tribute concert to the love of her life and all-time inspiration — 1989 Van Cliburn Piano Competition Gold Medalist, Alexei Sultanov — with special musical support from Organist Peggy Graff and friends.

Choral Union/Adoramus Summer Concert

Enjoy a relaxing summer concert which provides both secular and sacred music from our wonderful adult choirs in a “feel good” atmosphere. Selections will include music to be performed in Ireland by members of Choral Union this summer as well as selections from gospel, spiritual, and different heritages that make up our great country’s image so rich in tradition.
