Helping Corpus Christi and Rockport area homeowners sort through their belongings one room at a time, our FUMCFW Emergency Response Team (ERT) members hit the ground running last week for Hurricane Harvey relief. They also helped get tarps on roofs to prevent more water coming in these homes, delivered new T-shirts (compliments of John Howard, Dana and Ted Settle) at the local high school, and put those flood buckets (thank to Jim and Judy-Lynn Barrow for donating the 150 flood buckets we filled together) to good use as the massive post-storm cleanup began. Flood buckets and T-shirts not used last week are now on their way to Conroe to bless others there.
While many of these families were still staying in local shelters, others were beginning the exhausting and heartbreaking work of sifting through soggy rubble in search of any belongings that could be salvaged, and our ERT was right there beside them, lending a hand as well as an ear. Thanks, admiration, and appreciation go to our hardworking team that represented First Church so well, and thanks to everyone in our congregation who supported the work of this team with your prayers and contributions that have reached more than $52,000 to date!
