Nancy FisherThis week our church is full of young heroes – all ages, all sizes. One thing that they have in common is that they are finding their strength and secret powers through God!

I don’t know about you but I feel really, really good about having these heroes-in-training around First Church. Not only do I feel safe right now, but I also feel joyful about the future of FUMCFW as we welcomed 600 youngsters to 2017 VBS.

It also got me thinking about all of our other FUMCFW heroes who are making possible this “Hero Training.” The obvious heroes are of course the Children’s Ministry staff, the clergy, other church staff and our amazing volunteers. All you need to do is to walk in the church hallways this week to get a sense of the time, talent and energy required to pull off this successful, God focused, unforgettable week. And again, these heroes come in all ages, all sizes. The one thing they too share is that they find their strength and secret powers through God!

Let’s not forget about the other unseen heroes-members of our First Church faith community who are sharing their prayers and resources! Thanks to your heroic generosity in the way of your 2017 Ministry Commitment to the Operating Budget and the weekly offerings, you are champions for these 600 children!

The best outcome for this week is that First Church is not only providing incredible hero training but we are also teaching our youngsters what happens when they share the best super power of all, that of God’s love! “This is how everyone will know that you are my disciples, when you love each other.” John 13:35

So, behind those masks and under those capes, we will find disciples for Christ who are going out to be God’s people in the world.

We are also very lucky that hero training is ongoing and available for any age. So, if you missed 2017 VBS because of timing or maybe your age, not to worry. Just walk in our doors and you will find ongoing training as we share and show God’s love through our actions, words and gifts.

Blessings,

Nancy
