Ways to Join
We accept new members by:
Profession of Faith and Christian Baptism
For people who have never before been baptized or confirmed in any church. In other words, this will be your first public commitment of belief in Jesus Christ.
Profession of Faith
For people who have been baptized but have not been involved in another church for a while or who have never joined a church as an adult.
Transfer from another denomination
For people whose current membership may be in a church that is Presbyterian, Baptist, Catholic, Episcopalian, or other denomination. We will contact your previous church to transfer your membership to First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth after you join.
Transfer from another United Methodist Church
For people who are members of other churches within our denomination, whether it’s local, state, national or even international. We will contact your previous church and have them transfer your membership to us.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to talk to someone first to join?
No. You do not have to talk to someone first. We always like the chance to get to know you before you join, but it is certainly not a requirement!
Do I have to take a class to join?
No, but we do have opportunities available for you to learn more about our church and denomination. We also offer a new member class periodically throughout the year. All are welcome to come and learn about the many different ministries at FUMCFW.
I have decided to join! What do I do next?
Great! You made the decision; the hard part is over! Simply fill out and detach the card in our “How to Join” brochure, available in the pews and the Main Office and bring it with you to the front of the church during the singing of the last hymn. (You’ll know when — we’ll ask you to come forward just before that hymn begins).
Do I have to be re-baptized?
No. The United Methodist Church believes in one baptism. We recognize the baptism of any Christian denomination.
Do I have to walk up front to join?
We prefer that you do. When anyone joins our church, we want to give other members an opportunity to meet their new brother or sister in Christ. We celebrate new members and want the congregation to share in this moment with you and to welcome you personally!
What about my children?
Children are very important to our church! When they join the church with you, they are considered preparatory members. They become full members when they go through confirmation in the sixth grade.
My children need to be baptized. When can I do that?
If your child is an infant, we can arrange to baptize him or her at a Sunday worship service. At least one parent must be a member of the church. We suggest that if a child is not an infant, he or she wait until confirmation, and the sacrament of baptism will be administered then.
What is expected of me?
When people join our church, they are asked if they will support the church with their prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness. This membership vow is not only for the benefit of the church, but for your own sake as well. Together, as a church, we make up the Body of Christ. Every person’s involvement in the life and work of the church strengthens this body!
