Tim75“A Time to Weep and a Time to Mourn”

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. — Romans 8:26

Dr. Tim Bruster

Friends,

We were already reeling from the devastation of the earthquakes in Mexico; the hurricanes in Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico; and the wildfires in the Western United States and Canada. Now we are in shock as we mourn the horrific mass murder of dozens and the wounding of hundreds in Las Vegas. In the wake of all these tragic events we feel distraught, perhaps helpless, and — with the sheer magnitude of all this suffering and loss in our world — maybe even a bit numb. Read more.

Robert Stovall gives a quick preview of the music offering for this Sunday.

Church Exterior_SQSigns of Our FUMCFW Future

This past week the Building Committee met and reviewed a plan for signage and wayfinding at FUMCFW. In a unanimous vote they recommended to the Board of Trustees that we move forward on developing this plan that seeks to put beautiful curved “monument” signage at the corners of our church campus to mark its edges, as well as bronze-colored permanent signage to help identify buildings and provide directions to various locations on the campus. mark75One of the Reasons I LOVE My Church . . .

Mark Burrows

So, many of you know the worship team has been planning — The Gospel According to Dogs — a sweet, fun worship series set to start this Sunday. And then we all woke up Monday morning to the news from Las Vegas. That, on top of three, THREE devastating hurricanes, earthquakes . . . Read more.

Way to Go, Families!

Sunday was an amazing day in Academy! The rooms were buzzing! After one Sunday, I would say the October Attendance Challenge is still anyone’s to win. Our Bible story for October is the ultimate “underdog” story — David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17:1-50). Our main idea is how to cope with bullying. Bullying — It’s not just about what David does or what Goliath does. Read more.

Tom75Let it go. Let it out. Let it all unravel.

Rev. Tom McDermott

The poet Mark Nepo writes, “Like gravity, the presence and impact of suffering in this world is an element we cannot escape.” And yet, the root word of suffering means “to feel keenly,” as if to say suffering, as discomforting and even frightening as it can seem, is also an invitation to be in this life together with one another, to be present and open to one another, to feel intentionally. Rev. Lance Marshall

I love participating in brainstorming sessions with Mister Mark, the Director of Children’s Ministries at FUMCFW. Not only is he brilliant and creative, he’s great at helping a group zero in on its best, most productive ideas.
